Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers about clay classes, studio policies, and how we work at RapidRiver Clay Studio.

What should I bring to my first class?

Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dusty, trim your nails short, and tie back long hair. We provide clay, basic tools, aprons, and towels in beginner courses.

How many students per session?

Most classes run with 6–10 students. This ensures everyone gets individual coaching without rushing the room.

Do you fire student work?

Yes. We schedule regular bisque and glaze firings. Each course includes a fair volume of firing; additional volume is available at a per-pound rate with transparent logs.

What if I miss a class?

We offer one open-studio credit per course for missed sessions when space allows. Please email us as early as possible so we can help reschedule.

Is online learning effective for clay?

For technique demos and planning, online works well. Hand feedback is best in-studio. Many students combine both to accelerate progress.

What skill level should I start with?

If you’ve never centered clay or attached handles, start at Beginner. If you can pull consistent walls and trim feet confidently, Intermediate fits. Advanced is for sculptural builds and glaze design.

How do cancellations and refunds work?

Full refunds are available 7 days before start. Within 7 days, we’ll try to fill your seat; if we do, you get a full refund, otherwise a studio credit. See full policy in Terms.

Are materials included?

Beginner kits are included. Intermediate and Advanced courses may recommend specific clays or tools; we’ll list them clearly in the catalog.

Is the studio accessible?

Yes. We have ramp access, adjustable wheels, and flexible seating. Please contact us with any specific needs so we can prepare your space.
